All the new students have already claimed their first partner Pokémon here, at Professor Oak's laboratory, but because Ash arrived late, he missed his pick.
Ash begs the Professor for a Pokémon; unfortunately, the only one left is a problematic Pikachu that refuses to get along with him. The Professor also gives Ash a Pokédex named Dexter.
