Hours later, after the storm clears, trainer and Pokémon wake up in the middle of the trail. Ash carries Pikachu the final stretch of Route 1 until they arrive in Viridian City.
Off in the distance, flying into a bright rainbow, Ash sees a Pokémon that his Pokédex cannot identify... Eternal happiness.

Despite gaining time on Misty's bike, the Spearow catch up to Ash, and attack him again in the middle of a relentless thunderstorm. Defying the angry flock, the youngster is ready to sacrifice himself for his badly hurt Pikachu and calls out for them to strike him instead.
Noticing Ash's courage, Pikachu makes one last effort and launches a Thunder Shock attack that beats all the Spearow at once with a thunderous explosion.
Ash is fished out of the water by Misty, a girl who is angling at this peaceful river bank. Alarmed by Pikachu's health, she suggests taking it to a hospital.
Young Ketchum grabs Misty's bike and re-taking Route 1, rides as fast as he can towards the hospital. He promises the girl that he will return the bike some day.
Ash, with Pikachu in arms, decides to jump off the cliff and into this raging waterfall to avoid the attack of the Spearow. Upon hitting the bottom, both are dragged by the strong current downstream until the waters finally calm down.
The Spearow badly hurt Pikachu, even after Ash stands in front of them to defend him. The young trainer takes Pikachu in his arms and goes off-road to escape the angry birds.
Reaching the cliff next to this waterfall, Ash now has two options: jumping into the raging waters, or getting attacked by the Spearow. What will he do?
Ash persists in his attempt to capture a Pidgey, but instead, he and Pikachu end up inadvertently agitating a Spearow. A very territorial and aggressive flying Pokémon, the bird calls a flock of other Spearow that suddenly take off the lush tree on this hill, and head toward Ash and Pikachu.
Mom has come to bid Ash a fond farewell, as he prepares to leave Pallet, begrudgingly accompanied by his Pikachu. Taking Kanto Route 1 to the north, the pair starts their journey to Viridian City.
This is a nice country road, full of open fields and beautiful landscapes. It is also where Ash meets his first opportunity to capture a Pokémon.
Things don't go well, however, and due to his lack of expertise, Ash fails to catch a Pidgey, the gentlest and easiest to capture among the flying Pokémon.
