Melanie feels that the village has become too small for Bulbasaur to fully grow into its full potential, and suggests Ash takes it with him. This will also encourage the other Pokémon in the village to return to the wild once they heal.
Bulbasaur agrees to go with Ash, only if he defeats it in combat. Pikachu and Bulbasaur battle, and after a grueling combat, Pikachu wins and Bulbasaur concedes. With a new member in the team, Ash and friends leave the hidden village.
