Kanto Route 7

Tired of running away and getting punched by the angry Pokémon, Ash has had enough and decides to fight back. The young trainer chooses Squirtle, but its water gun does little to weaken Primeape. Next, he sends Bulbasaur, whose Razor Leaf attack is also ineffective.

Finally, Ash releases Charmander, who struggles at first, but then uses Rage attack to increase its fire power beyond the normal levels and scorch its opponent. As Pikachu recovers Ash's hat, he catches Primeape with a Poké Ball.

Not even the combined forces of Jessie, James, Meowth, Ekans, and Koffing are enough to stop Primeape's rampage, who gives Team Rocket a sound thrashing for kicking it without provocation.

Brock figures that Primeape is just looking for attention, so he tries to tame it, but much to his misfortune, he also gets a pounding. Knowing that they are next, Ash, Misty, and Pikachu run away before they get caught by the angry Pokémon.

Kanto Route 7

Team Rocket casually walks up to the gang, with the firm purpose of capturing Pikachu. Curious about the new arrivals, Mankey gets close to innocently check everyone out, but James kicks it to get it out of their way, throwing it behind the bushes.

Brock warns Team Rocket to scram before Mankey gives them a beating like it did with Ash. It is too late, however, because in its berserk state, the Pokémon evolves into Primape, a fighting machine that will chase after you forever!

After being attacked without provocation, the mild-mannered and playful Mankey goes berserk and starts chasing the trainers. It isn't until it reaches Ash, gives him a beating, and takes his hat, that the pig-monkey Pokémon calms its rage and goes back to its normal self.

Meanwhile, Team Rocket spies from a distance using high-tech binoculars. Now that Ash is distracted trying to recover his official Pokémon League Expo hat, Jessie, James, and Meowth have an opportunity to grab Pikachu and please their boss.

Kanto Route 7

Hiding behind the bushes there is a Mankey watching the gang as they eat their food. Hoping to get some of it, the pig-monkey approaches Brock playfully, so he gives it a rice ball. For Ash, this is an unexpected chance to catch a fighting Pokémon.

Acting before thinking, and ignoring Misty's advice, Ash throws a Poké Ball at Mankey without weakening it first, to which the pig-monkey reacts by throwing the rice ball back, frustrating the poorly executed catch attempt.

Kanto Route 7

After his call to Pallet Town, Ash's morale has crumbled; he thought he was doing great, when in reality, he has much work to do in order to catch up to his peers. To lift his spirits, Brock offers Ash some rice balls he is preparing on the side of the road.

Misty and Brock remind Ash that quality always comes before quantity, so he should get Pokémon at his own pace, not just for the sake of having more. Not that Ash is listening to any of it, he just wants to catch more Pokémon than Gary Oak.

Professor Oak's Laboratory

Professor Oak informs Ash that his grandson Gary and the other two Pallet Town trainers have already been to Celadon City, and each one has earned five gym badges. Not only that, Gary has caught a lot of Pokémon, which means Ash is falling behind.

Krabby is the only Pokémon the Professor has received from Ash so far, so he puts pressure on the young trainer to increase his catch count if he wants to achieve his goals. With that, the Professor ends the call to continue enjoying his tea.
